PCB Profiles > About the Map
The Rose Foundation provided funding to develop a tool to display PCB
contaminant information over the World Wide Web. The tool should be easy
to use and provide information in a form usable to scientists, decision makers,
and the general public. The tool also had to be compatible with other
on-line mapping efforts currently under development for the EcoAtlas. The PCB viewing tool was developed using ArcIMS software from the
Environmental System Reseach Institute ( ESRI ). The goal was to
integrate a query tool as seamlessly as possible with existing functions of
ArcIMS. When the "Average PCB concentrations in sediment (ppb)" is
visible and active, querying any PCB point with the identify tool ( |
) will
display a bar chart of the related PCB data for all available years .
